HiveU — Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 14, 2026 · Version: 2.0

1. Who we are

HIVEU LLC ("HiveU," "we," "us") operates the HiveU platform. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.

HiveU is not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Colorado Boulder or any other institution. We are not a school official and your HiveU data is not education records under FERPA. If you connect a school email address to HiveU, that information is held by us under this policy, not by your school.

2. Information we collect

2.1 You give us

2.2 We collect automatically

Device and browser type, operating system, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, pages and listings viewed, actions taken, timestamps, referring URL, and crash and performance data. We use cookies and similar technologies — see Section 7.

Marketing attribution. To understand which of our efforts actually work, we record how you arrived at HiveU: the referral code or Helper link you used, which QR code or flyer you scanned, campaign parameters in the link you clicked (commonly called UTM parameters), and your answer if you tell us how you heard about us. We connect that signal to your later activity — whether you verified, and whether you completed a booking — so we can measure which channels bring real users.

3. How we use your information

4. What other users see

Some information is visible to other users by design:

Think before you post. Anything in your bio, photos, or listing text is visible to other students. We recommend not publishing your home address, dorm room number, class schedule, or personal phone number in a public field.

Reviews are public and remain visible after an account closes, in de-identified form where feasible.

5. Who we share with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We share with:

6. Retention

We keep personal information as long as your account is active and as long as needed for the purposes above. After account closure we generally retain: transaction, payment, and tax records — including W-9 information — for seven years, for tax and accounting purposes; safety, fraud, and enforcement records for as long as needed to prevent recurrence; promotion and bonus eligibility records for two years, so awards can be audited or disputed; messages associated with a dispute until the dispute is resolved and any limitations period has run; and backups, until they age out on our normal cycle. We delete or de-identify the rest within 90 days of closure.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the Platform, understand usage, and attribute signups to the referral link, QR code, or campaign that brought you. You can control cookies through your browser, though disabling them may break core functionality like staying logged in. We honor Global Privacy Control signals as an opt-out of any sale or sharing, where applicable.

8. Your choices and rights

You can review and update most account information in your settings, control notification preferences, and unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any such message. Transactional messages about your bookings and account are not optional while your account is open. You may ask to be excluded from public Top Helper displays at any time.

You may request that we: access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a portable format; correct inaccurate information; delete your information, subject to the retention obligations in Section 6 (tax records we are legally required to keep cannot be deleted on request); opt out of any sale, sharing, or targeted advertising (we don't do these, but the right stands); and appeal a decision we make on any of these requests.

To make a request, email hiveusupport@gmail.com. We will verify your identity — typically by confirming control of the account email — and respond within 45 days, with an extension where permitted. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and limiting staff access to what's needed. Tax identification information is subject to additional access restriction. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any required regulator as the law requires. Use a strong, unique password and tell us at hiveusupport@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

10. Children

The Platform is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact hiveusupport@gmail.com.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with an updated effective date and version number and, for material changes, notify you by email or in-app notice at least 30 days before it takes effect.
